You (or anyone else) can scan or read a QR Code with a scanner app that uses the camera in your smartphone. Just download one of the many free QR Code scanning apps to your smartphone -- in fact, you may already have one!
While you have many options when choosing a QR Code scanner, not all apps perform the same. Some scanner apps have their own built-in web browser that opens up web pages within the app instead of opening them in Safari (on iPhone) or Chrome (on Android). There are times these internal web browsers lack the required functionality to deliver the same experience as your phone's full browser.
For the best experience, look for a scanner app that opens up web pages in your phone's default browser. Here are some free QR Code scanning apps that we recommend. (Also, if you have a suggestion for a better scanning app we'd love to hear from you!)
- For Android we recommend QR Code Reader, QR Droid or Google Goggles.
- For iPhone we recommend NeoReader, Scan (requires setting Safari as default), Kaywa Reader or i-nigma
- For Windows Phone we recommend Microsoft Tag or Scan.
- For BlackBerry we recommend Smart Tags or QR Scanner Pro.
